Well, I am writing this blog as I sit on a plane at 35000 ft and asking myself the question as to whether the Margaret River shiraz I have beside me would taste better in a glass that was specifically designed to bring out the characteristics of that grape variety.

To answer this with a simple Yes would be flippant and not thought out and have by way very little explanation as to why you would contemplate having a specific glass for each wine style you drink. I can hear all your thoughts right now that it’s a simple marketing ploy and gimmick but its not, I can assure you.

I can make an example to this point as I did a simple test with a customer only last week that I would let him taste a wine in a grape specific glass to a stock standard glass from the cupboard they would usually use. We used a pinot that he knew and we poured it into the various glasses, after smelling, tasting and chewing that wine through he had no argument that could deny that the glass it was designed for is better.

Imagine taking your Hyundai Getz to the race track to use against a Ferrari that is designed for speed, handling, aerodynamics and looks the two just don’t compare. It is the same with the wine glasses that you drink from. Grape specific glass, takes the confusion off the nose and palate making the jumble of notes into a Symphony highlighting the correct notes as it delivers the wine to the correct part of your mouth and allows the air to mix with the wine to allure and tease that sense of smell. The correct glass can take that usual bottle of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon into a new experience.

While the glass that you use now is ok, imagine if you could turn the experience of the $30 bottle to seem like you spent $100. So really that makes spending money on a good quality glass seem cheap and reasonable when you look at the value over time.
